Domaine de la Côte

Domaine de la Côte is a collection of vineyards in the far western reaches of the Sta Rita Hills. Each vineyard has a unique geology, aspect, elevation and microclimate creating distinct expressions of terroir. The southwest facing estate, seven miles from the Pacific Ocean, is battered by wind and often blanketed in oceanic fog. A long growing season, low yields, and small clusters with little to no seeds, lend itself to savory, Burgundian style wines. Domaine de la Côte organically farms its vineyards and makes its wines with the philosophy of “add nothing; take nothing away.” All the wines are produced and bottled at the winery in Lompoc, California, just three miles from the domaine.

Why the Sta. Rita Hills? For the proximity to the pacific ocean, cool temperatures along with wind and fog, and marine sedimentary soils. These conditions result in high levels of physiological ripeness at low levels of sugar/potential alcohol. From a stylistic standpoint, the wines show purity, tension, and a strong sense of terroir.
